What are the benefits of attending a Futurepath insights programme?

Our programmes are designed to facilitate engaged and motivated students to explore their subject of interest in greater depth, providing them with insight into what it is like to learn more about this subject at a university level and what career paths would be available to the participant.

Attending this programme provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate and improve on critical skills often required such as public speaking, discussion, and critical thinking. In addition, it provides you with an excellent opportunity to discover your specific interests within a field, which can be helpful when trying to finally decide on why you wish to study a subject in the future.

Our university and staff are closely acquainted with many people from related industries and in turn request for guest lectures to help participants understand more about their daily life, career, how they got there, and form meaningful connections!

During the programme, you will have the opportunity for one-to-one discussions with a professional, which is an excellent opportunity to discuss academic content in depth.

Additionally, you will be assigned to a mentor and become part of a ‘mentor group’. Your mentor would be a current undergraduate student and will be able to have chats about their time in university as well as help you settle into your accommodation.

They will be more than happy to help with any questions you may have about the university, and again, you will be able to schedule one-to-one consultations with them. We’re incredibly proud of our support, and it’s a highlight of our students’ experience that sets us apart from other summer courses.

Who is this programme suitable for?

Our programmes are designed to facilitate engaged and motivated students to explore their subject in greater depth by providing them with insight into what it is like to study and to achieve a career in their subject of interest.

Students within the age range of 15-18 years old at the time of their selected course are eligible to enrol on the programme. The programme is designed for high school students (i.e. 15-18 years old at the time of attendance).

All subjects and programmes are taught at a level that is appropriate for participants. Our programmes are taught at the level of those who are currently taking their chosen subject at A-level (UK), The International Baccalaureate (IB), or equivalent high school qualification.

We do not have any formal academic requirements, but students are required to submit their educational background after enrolment as the tutors will be informed of participants’ educational backgrounds and will consider this during the academic sessions.

Do I need a visa to attend Futurepath?

EU, EEA, Swiss citizens, countries under the british colony such as Malaysia & Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, etc. can travel to the UK for holidays or short trips without needing a visa.

We recommend applying for your visa (if required) as far in advance of the summer as possible as visa applications and acceptance procedures tend to take a few weeks to a few months

Once you have enrolled in the programme, we will keep in touch with you on any visa queries you may have and to regularly check in with you until your visa has been approved!

When is the enrolment deadline?

Enrolments are open at www.futurepath.education/enrol

Due to the new-found growth of our programmes, we recommend completing your registration as soon as you know of your availability as places are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis (We will offer any kind of assistance and support you may need).

Once a programme is full, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted should a place become available.

Where will I be staying?

All participants attending our Futurepath programmes will reside in on-site Brunel University accommodations.

All rooms are single occupancy with shared bathroom facilities, typically at a one bathroom ratio per four participants. Some ensuite facilities are available, with priority given to participants with additional needs.

Where bathroom facilities are shared, participants are accommodated by gender on separate corridors. Where ensuite facilities are provided, corridors may be mixed-gender.

The accommodation is used by undergraduate students during term time and is therefore designed to support study, rather than cater to luxury. Many of the buildings have been renovated, but keep in mind they have a long history and therefore mostly do not provide air conditioning.

All accommodation is secured with a lock, and your key will be provided during registration.

Will I be sharing a bedroom?

All rooms are single occupancy with shared bathroom facilities, typically at a one bathroom ratio per four participants. Some ensuite facilities are available, with priority given to participants with additional needs.

What should I bring?

Before your programme, we will send a Participant Information Pack which will include a packing list for the programme.

We do recommend bringing clothes suited for slightly warmer UK weather (roughly 18 - 24 degrees celcius), towels, toiletries (we have an on-campus shop), and possible entertainment!

Take note that this programme is a 2 week ongoing programme where parents are more than welcomed travel with, settle in, and be around their children if they wished. However, packing enough clothing for 2 weeks may not be necessary as there will be many communal laundromats available for use to wash the participants’ laundry, towels, etc.

If I have to cancel, will I get my money back?

We understand that unforeseeable events do happen and may prevent you from being able to attend the programme you originally enrolled in.

We assess all such instances on a case-by-case basis and will do our best to accommodate your change in circumstances, whether it may be a deferral to the next year’s programme, partial refund with online courses in exchange, or a full refund. We request that you please get in touch at the earliest possible moment to discuss any changes to your programme.

For information about our refund policy, please see our terms and conditions of enrolment.

What will I receive after the programme?

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation/Completion upon completing their Futurepath programme. This will be awarded at the graduation ceremony on the final day.

After the programme, Personal participant feedback is written by the tutor, evaluating participant progress and making recommendations on how to most effectively advance participants’ understanding and interest in the topics that have been explored.

When should I arrive for the programme?

We recommend that participants arrive at the programme on the morning of the first day specified in the programme itinerary that will be sent to the participant upon enrolment. However, registration will be open until the early afternoon and in any case of delay please let the team know in advance!

There will be refreshments provided for the participants (and parents) for lunch on the first day, and parents if you wish to accompany your child to the programme we would be honored to welcome you!

What happens on arrivals day?

Arrivals day is a gentle introduction to Futurepath and a great opportunity for you to meet your fellow participants (who knows you may meet a friend for life!) exchange socials, discord IDs, get to know your mentor and mentor group, as well as explore the campus!

Your mentor will show you around your accommodation upon arrival and registration, and will round up the mentor group for a campus tour to familiarise yourself with your surroundings. Parents and families are welcome to follow along to attend these tours and explore the university halls!

Before a dinner in the town centre, there will also be a Welcome Talk to highlight important information and introduce participants to the Futurepath team.

After your first dinner with your mentor family, there will be a series of fun, light-hearted activities to help participants get to know each other and their mentors followed.

Will my parents stay with me if they accompany me?

As much as we would love to have your parents with you to reassure them of their child’s wellbeing, we would not be able to put them up in our on-campus accommodation and if they so wished are able to book other nearby hotels/accommodations and visit regularly!

Which accommodation will I be staying in?

Your specific acoommodation will be assigned closer to the programme start date, and you will be informed of this in advance before the start of the programme.

Your welcome pack includes details of the possible accommodation blocks for your programme dates in addition to a map of the campus and other goodies.

All accommodations are on-campus - which means it is part of a single property university campus, and within a maximum of 7 minutes walk to the tutor rooms. No matter which accommodation block you are assigned to, rest assured there is 24/7 security and multiple security measures installed such as key card access and keys.

I haven’t studied my chosen subject before, can I still choose any subject?

We ask that all participants are at most, interested and passionate with their subject or similar subjects. Specific knowledge and experience of your chosen subject can be useful, but not necessary at all.

During the application process, we’ll ask about your motivations for enrolling in your specific course, to make sure you’re a right fit for the programme and that the chose subject programme is the best option for you.
